Nokta reads... 02/2012

After setting & completing my goal of reading so and so many books in 2011, I promised myself to participate in the challenge for this year, too. So February....

Der Prophet (The Prophet) - Khalil Gibran
Basically people did ask question and the Prophet answered them as good as he could. Sound stupid at first, but really isn't.
Loved this, Gibran really did great.

Die Pfingstrose aus Jade (The Jade Peony) - Wayson Choy
3 reasons which did prompt me to read this book where as follows.
Chinese immigrant, Vancouver/Canada and to be honest the book cover.
The book is divided into three sections, somthing that you won't realise until you start each section. Three of the four children from the household have each their own part, in which they narrate from their point of view about a defining event.
Beautiful to read and the end brought me dangerously close to bawling.

Die blaue Msuchel (Coastliners) - Joanne Harris
In and of itself this book is typically written á la Harris.
Since I had read her books "Chocolat" & "Blackberry Wine", I got a thing for her writing style.
BUT this book was not really convincing, it so dind't give me that magical realism vibe. The insland people are a bunch of pigheaded & daft people, the main protagonist & narrator is annoying as hell, too, and the end itself is not satisfying.
Even though I have nothing against open Endings.

Die Päpstin (Pope Joan) - Donna Woolfolk Cross
*whee* That was something for the feminists' heart. Donna, sweetie, to say it in Inter-Lingo... THIS! The book is good to read, I didn't want to put it away.
All the Herzschmerz & the inhumanity that is religion, Dark Ages(?) & misogyny, too... what else can we ask for?

On another note, Mother will be hopefully soon out of the Hospital & then I can a life of my own again. Th Cat is not doing well, but we try to make his last few weeks as nice as possible.
Oh, and last but not least, if I did post a Tutorial about dyeing paper with tea and/or coffe, would anyone be interested? I was going to post two weeks ago but all the drama at home just made it hard to do anything  else beside eating & working. :/
