Annual Tree Genocide & the Head of the (New) Year

Even though I do not celebrate X-Mas... I do appreciate the hidden worshipping of a Tree.
On both parental sides my forefathers did this ages ago, though not because of Jesus, mind you. :)

This is the second time our Family will go through 'Yılbaşı' (lit. Head of the Year [New Year Festivities)] without our beloved Father.

Divination will be done...
Nuts and Chocolate will be consumed.
Bellies will be laden with yummy turkish, traditional Dinner.
Everything cleaned and shiny at home.
Everyone looks and behaves prim and proper.
No fights and arguments from sundown of New Year's Eve until sundown of the New Year's Day.

All in the hopes of a peaceful, lucky and prosper Year to come.
The way you behave around New Year's Eve, is the kind this upcoming Year will be for you and your loved Ones.

I will be back in 13 Days.
I wish you all lovely Holidays, lots of Presents and a Happy New Year 2016.

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXVIII

Sometimes you see a house or building in general and think... "It must take a lot of effort to keep this old thing together!?" But then again it looks so beautiful, that you become just a tad jealous of how special it looks. I've seen a few homes like that in Real Life & always enjoy seeing more online... hopefully you like them, too. ;)
(Links are, again, below each of the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr & for Crediting of course.)

My favourites Houses are the really old ones from the Ottoman Era. Sometimes I ask myself, how they still stand... but at the same time I am glad they do. ;)

What's your thought? Ripe for a teardown or worth the effort to save them? -'Cause you know the charm of them and all...

Yours,
 Nokta

Weird Word Wednesdays VII

Hygge
hü · ghae
cosiness
(n.) The fact, that you have it nice and comfortable together.
A simple kind of cosiness.

It is getting colder and you like it more cosy!?
This word, in my humble opinion, is the epitome of cosiness and everything that is part of it.
The Danes have it right! :)
(Though Hygge is not really translatable per se.)

You know, how you just want to sit down and feel happy, enjoy that which is dear to you and just be?
Have 'your' people with you and share that special feeling... with something warm to drink and a few candles? -That's hygge... (or at least, that's what our neighbour country Denmark 'tells' us)

What about you? Ever felt that way?

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXVII

I have always had a thing for Asia when it comes to Sports in general. And the Asanas from Yoga, if carried out right, are not just rewarding for the body, but also a beauty to behold for the observer.
Of course some see Yoga as a hyped 'sport' only in the Western World. But it really depends on who practices it... ;)
Most people only know the Downward Dog or Warrior poses. Let's change that & feast on some Eye-Candy.
(As always Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and for Crediting of course.)

I only do some of the easier Āsanas, due to my medical condition, but I like how it feels.
What about you? Do you do yoga, or is it just a hype to you?
Which Pose/Asana is your favourite? ;)
Let me know

Yours,
 Nokta

P.S.: One more, with a Yogini Kitty trying out some Pose... ;)

Weird Word Wednesdays VI

Hiraeth - hee · raith
hi · raeth
(n.) a homesickness for a home you cannot return to,
or that never was

Sometimes, whatever you do is just not right. You went out into the world, came back home or resettled somewhere close to it.
But wherever you go, it does not feel right. You never feel at home.

So you never feel quite satisfied. There is always this nagging feeling, that you are not where you belong to.

Do you know that feeling of Hiraeth? Or are you happy were, or how, you live right now?

I would love to know... for sometimes when I lay in my Bed at Night (and at Home), it does feel slightly off. ;)

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXVI

Looking at the World these Days I feel lost & sad. Too much hate on all fronts. Pride, Patriotism & that stupid thought, that each one's Religion is the one true of them all.
And all this, while we share one small Planet. We Humans are a sad & dumb Species... but enough of that. I hope you enjoy this small Selection of Earth of the different kind &  forget the Sorrows of the past Weeks.
(As always Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and for Crediting of course.)

Do you like them? I hope they are a good diversion?
I hope you all have a lovely & inspiring Week.
Stay save...

 Nokta

Weird Word Wednesdays V

Ennui - boredom, annoyance, listlessness
(n.) a feeling of utter weariness and discontent;
a lack of spirit, enthusiasm, or interest

Sometimes you just do not want to do a single thing. Maybe even for a longer period.
When everything is kind of  'meh'... you just can't be bothered. Or rather you simply "just don't feel like it".
I've been feeling like this a lot in the past few weeks, let's see for how much longer I can procrastinate & postpone important decisions before it comes back and bites my 'back side'.

How about you... are you sometimes, too, in that mood?
What do you do against it? -Let me know!

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXV

I am a Bookworm, a Booklover. Books... I eat them for Breakfast, no I devour them. Books are amazing, most of all in the old fashioned way. Paper, ink, the binding ...the only problem with them is how to store these beauties. I only live in a small flat/apartment so the space is a problem. I dream of a small private Library to sore my pretties the right way. Maybe one Day... ;)
(As always Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and for Crediting of course.)

“I am a bookworm. For play, I bury myself in the corners of libraries and read.”
- Robert Littell

Hmm... just looking at these Images made me happy.
What about you? Do you love Books? And how do you store them? Do you have a library at your place? Or do you, like me, dream of one?

 Nokta

Weird Word Wednesdays IV

GümüşSelvi - (gümüş servi) - [گوموش‌سلوی - Ottoman Turkish]
Gümüş · Selvi
       Silver · Cypress
(n.) The reflecting Path of the Moon on the surface of Water.

Yesterday was a Full Moon, the Hunter's Moon, so what would be better than to take a word, that is about the Moon.

Turkic people wax poetic when it comes to this much beloved Celestial Body of theirs.

The literal translation might sound weird at first, but it seems that it really just is what people see in it. The 'Silver' comes from te colour of the moon when it hits the water... and the shape of the reflection resembles a 'Cypress' tree.

Do you agree with this name or is it something else you see in this image of the so called 'Gümüşselvi'?
Or maybe in your culture, or your language, there is a name for that, too? -I would really love to know...

So, now I leave you alone with the full Ay Dede & wish you a beautiful Evening with him in the Sky.

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXIV

As soon as it gets colder in our Northern Hemisphere I like to 'create sweet stuff'... and of course I like to munch & slurp some of it... :)
But since I don't have the time right now to make yumminess, I only take part in the elimination of it! ^_^
So let's feast our eyes on some selected pieces.
(As always Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and for Crediting of course.)

I hope you enjoyed today's Eyegasms...
But just to satisfy my curiousity... which kind of person are you, the creator or destroyer of all that is yummy? ;) -Maybe both?
And what do you prefer in particular right now?

Yours,
 Nokta

Weird Word Wednesdays III

μετάνοια - metá·noia
                      after · to perceive
(n.) a fundamental & intentional change in an individual's life

With this word I would like to emphasise the non-religious aspect of its meaning.
Sometimes people have the need to change their life drastically for the better. Maybe because of the dead of a loved one, one's own health or something like that.

This word really fits the process of setting a new mindset and/or change of one's path.
And it also has a nice ring to it by the way.

Did you ever really radically change your outlook or way of life? Did you experience the state of metánoia?

I would really like to know!

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXIII

Now that the days are getting colder & darker, I have this need to surround myself with inspiring earthy tones... perfectly fitting the Seasons yellows, reds, oranges & brown colours.
(Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and of course for Crediting purposes.)

Saffron, Crimson, Pomelo, Rust, Maroon... the colour names themselves already make me swoon!
What do you think about 'autumny' & earthy colours?
Which is you favourite one? Does their presence warm you in the cold Autumn evenings or inspire you in any other way? I'd love to hear from you! :)

 Nokta

Sporadically II

After a few days in Bed I am still not feeling well, so I had to skip this weeks Tumblr Tuesday...

But I hope to see you again next week... when the next installment will be posted.

I hope you are all doing well & wish you an awesome & relaxing Weekend. :)

Weird Word Wednesdays II

Fernweh - fern·weh
                 far · sore
(n.) an indefinable ache or longing to be at far away places

Every now & then one experiences that feeling... when home is not enough. When one needs to visit a place without really knowing where it is at all.
It's a yearning that most people go through at least once in their life.

I myself originating from a multi-cultural background have felt Fernweh a lot. But the outcome has never been quite what I wished for.

Have you ever felt Fernweh? Did you act on that feeling?
Which place did it lead you to? Was it satisfying or did it start all over once you barely settled?

I am curious to know.

Yours,
 Nokta

Tumblr Tuesday XXII

I wish I had a clutter free Desk. But unfortunately I am a chaotic mess at home. I barely manage to not mess up my Desk at work, notice the 'barely'... you can spot my Desk from the other end of the open office without knowing beforehand, that is in fact mine. :)
So let's revel in clean Desks, clutter-free & beautiful looking, shall we?
(Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and for Crediting.)

I hope you had as much fun as I had looking at this visual Deskp0rn. ;)
How does your Desk look, at home and/or at work. Are you a tidy person or rather the chaotic, messy type?

Thank you for stopping by...

Weird Word Wednesdays

木漏れ日 - Ko·mo·re·bi
(n.) sunshine filtering through foliage

Who doesn't know that moment when you walk by a tree or are walking in a forest, and you see a sunbeam, a ray of light... almost like a touchable cylinder, or rather a cone, of light coming from between the leaves and reaching right up to the ground.
Sometimes it even looks to the eyes, as if it where solid.

How about you, do you like this moment, when Komorebi happens? How about languages?
I hope you find this as inspiring as I did.

Yours,
 Nokta

P.S.: I was going to post something like this a few years ago, but never got around to do this.

I have always been highly interested in languages from a very, very young age. A big part of my formal education revolved around languages.
I grew up tri-lingual because of my parental heritage & my brothers teaching me english early on & later in school I sometimes got taught about 4 languages at the same time. At my college/academy I took courses for a language related job. As a child I taught myself at home a few alphabets & the basic knowledge of a few languages.
You could say I live through languages! ;)

So I hope you will enjoy this bimonthly installment as much as I do.

Sporadically I

The last poppy flower of this years summer on that particular field.
I am glad autumn is on its way... here, have a lovely poppy.

How was your week... how was your summer so far. We had terrible heat waves where I live. I am ready for my shawls & capes... ;)

Have a lovely weekend, you lovelies!

Tumblr Tuesday XXI

I really missed this, I guess... so I hope you'll enjoy the newest post of my Tumblr Tuesday with me! :)

Meteorologically speaking today starts the Season of Autumn (Fall) in the northern Hemisphere. I am not a Summer person & since it was very hot this Year I am very happy to Welcome Autumn... as soon as possible. (Links are below the images, should you fancy to Like them on Tumblr and of course for Crediting purposes.)

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
― Albert Camus

What about you? How do you feel about Autumn?
And by the way, which Season is your favourite.. and why?

I would love to hear from you and wish you a beautiful week.

 Nokta

Crawling out from under that Stone

I was writing on a completely different topic for my first private LJ entry in months which changed into an open Blogger post. Simply because... while I write this, it came to my attention that it has been 1 year, 1 month, 1 week & 1 day since my father passed away.

I thought it a peculiar coincidence and I thought of how much I had missed using my Blogger & LJ to post about art-related things & stuff that's going on in my mind, respectively.

So I want to blog again in my spare time. Let's see how that goes...

While writing this I wasn't sure if I really should post it or leave my blogger account for good. It took me another 5 days to actually post it now.

Maybe this takes my mind off family & work.

Yours,
 Nokta
